I wrote this book to share my first hand experience and knowledge
to educate parents on drug prevention methods, and to help prepare parents and their
children, prior to any possible exposure to drugs that they may encounter, to prevent
or help reduce their child’s involvement with drugs.
I have lived, first hand, the whole range of experiences that involvement with illicit
drugs sadly entails:
Youthful drug dependence and
all the ensuing problems
Total drug addiction for 14 years
and all the horrors involved
Recovery and rehabilitation from
this addiction and all the impossible trials involved
As a parent myself now, and as
one who has experienced the whole spectrum of drug addiction, I know I possess so
many insights into the development and recovery process of addiction, that I felt
compelled to share my knowledge with other parents.
I decided to address the issue of drug prevention first, with the secondary focus
on treatment for drug addiction and drug abuse, all with the intention of educating
parents.
What help
is needed and who needs it?
In my opinion, the primary missing link to successful adolescent drug prevention
is the total lack of frank parental education — until EVER WONDERED if your child
will use drugs?
Education materials on drug awareness, like EVER WONDERED,
help parents identify drug-induced symptoms in their children, as well as learn how
to identify drug substances and paraphernalia. This up-to-date and totally honest
information helps parents communicate in an informed manner with their child about
the temptations and dangers of drug use.
This information places parents in a strong position to recognize changes in their
child, physically, psychologically and behaviorally, which can be the first visible
clues to a child’s involvement in drugs.
I encourage Parents to use their newfound “hands on” parenting skills, especially
in communicating and observing their child. It is imperative to their relationship.
It is also their responsibility to monitor the child’s environment and to protect
her or his welfare.
Prepare
Before You Are Confronted With The Challenge
I have found most parents research the available drug material only after they sense
their child may already be using drugs. This is setting you up for failure or, at
the very least, an uphill battle. Be prepared! If you never need the information,
won’t that be wonderful? Actually, if you do have the information, you are much less
likely to ever need it. You will already be on the alert.
Therefore, this book and its marketing will internationally promote the importance
of prevention and being prepared, rather than a reaction to having waited too long.
What method
is most effective in presenting this information?
I wanted to compile all relevant, up-to-date information currently available on drug
abuse and prevention methods, but I also wanted to incorporate my personal experiences,
knowledge and first-hand insights throughout the book. Although I know there is information
available for parents, I also know from my research that in order for the information
they so desperately need to be most effective, it must be easily accessible and clearly
written especially for parents.
If a parent wants to become comprehensively educated in matters of drug abuse, preventative
measures, signs to look for, etc, a common response would be to search the internet
for government information sites. There are a lot of those sites with a lot of helpful
information. Sometimes, too much! It becomes very easy for a parent to go into information
overload.
It’s true, there are specific pages directed at parents; however, after researching
almost all of them, I found the information to be comprehensive in some areas and
totally lacking or out-of-date in others. A parent would need to invest the time
to combine all the information on all the parents’ pages, to obtain a well-rounded
overview. Busy parents don’t have the time to do all that research; they sometimes
lack the skill to copy and paste from this page and that page into a whole new file
page. In essence, they don’t want to write a book! They don’t have to — I wrote it
for them.
I believe all parents should have my informative book in their homes, not only for
current use, but so it will be available for future reference, when and if you ever
need it to save your child’s future! As the author, I believe I have combined into
one book, every pertinent piece of information parents need to know on drug prevention.
I have answered every question frankly and honestly. In addition, I have provided
information parents might not even consider important, but it is!
My aim in writing this book has been to build a bridge between the
drug prevention advice provided by government agencies, and the
information that is actually directed to parents. An additional
benefit for parents is the horrific personal experiences I share to illustrate
the pain and suffering that drug addiction can cause.
So, dear parent, if you’ve EVER WONDERED if your child will use drugs? you might
be very surprised at what you’ll find between the covers of this book.
